Finding something fun for the whole family to do over spring break isn’t easy, but we’ve got you covered! Whether you’re traveling with toddlers or teens, Glenwood Springs has something to offer everyone.

Activities for Toddlers

We know how difficult it can be to find something fun to do with kids under six years old. Between snack times, nap times, and all the stuff you have to bring with you, driving all over town is the last thing you want to do.

If you stay at Hotel Glenwood Springs, you don’t even need to leave the building to wear out the kids! Our pool is heated to a balmy 90 degrees, warm enough to be comfortable without being too warm for young swimmers, and features two slides, a basketball hoop, and plenty of space to splash around.
For more fun for the whole family, check out the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool! Boasting the largest naturally heated pool in the world, a 104-degree relaxation pool, and a balmy 90-degree family pool. On March 14, the new Sopris Splash Zone will re-open. This new kids’ area features a whitewater river open-air tube ride, three mini water slides, waterfalls modeled after Hanging Lake, and a lighted fountain!

Finally, access to the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is in the same parking lot as the Hotel Glenwood Springs — mere steps from the lobby to the bottom of the gondola, so you don’t even have to worry about parking — and offers fun for kids of all ages. The cave tour is a thrilling walk through some of the most striking caverns in the country, and the cave is always at a cool 52 degrees inside, no matter the weather outside.

If caves aren’t your cup of tea, the Caverns also offers a wide variety of activities for small children, from an Old Tyme Photography Studio filled with props and costumes to laser tag and a 4D Motion Theater. Some of these attractions are closed in the winter, so it’s worth checking the website to make sure that you can see the ones you want.

Activities for Teens and Tweens

If your kids are a little bit older, the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park has thrill rides unlike anything else in the country. Most famous is the Alpine Coaster, named one of the 10 Best Roller Coaster Rides of Your Life by USA Today. This twisting metal track winds 3400 feet through the rocks and juniper trees to the bottom, where you’ll gradually come to a gentle stop and be pulled back to the top of the ride. Unlike an alpine slide, the coaster cars are fixed to the track, so it’s impossible to fall off! You can even ride in the winter when snow covers the mountain and the track is lit with fairy lights.

On the other side of the mountain is the Giant Swing — though it’s closed in the winter, so check your schedule. This swing carries four passengers back and forth, taking them nearly vertical at the top of each swing arc and dangling them more than 1300 feet above the Colorado River.

Are your kids fans of the great outdoors? Try renting bikes for the family and taking a ride along the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Trail, which stretches east for 16 miles alongside the Colorado River. Flanked by towering sandstone cliffs and rushing waters, this path is a beautiful ride through some of Colorado’s most unique terrain.

If you and your family are looking for more of a challenge, the Rio Grande trail stretches a full 42 miles from Glenwood Springs to Aspen along the old railroad line. You don’t have to ride the whole thing, but you can see some amazing sites, grab lunch in Carbondale, and take the bus right back to where you started!

If the mountain is still open, you can still get some skiing in! Glenwood Springs’ local ski area, Sunlight Mountain, is a charming little mountain with terrain for all ages and skill levels, and it’s open well past the end of most spring breaks.

Fall in the Colorado Rocky Mountains is special! After the Summer tourists leave, things get much quieter except for the aspen and cottonwood trees… They explode with a wild abandon of color. You want to see them and the kids want to play. Here’s how to make everyone happy with a Fall foliage family getaway in Colorado. This plan had been kid tested and approved. So, get out of town this Autumn and enjoy the great outdoors!

Fall colors in the Colorado high country comes early. The peak weeks are usually the third and fourth weeks of September. Sometimes, it spills into the first week of October. Relax! Colorado even has a hotline to find out what the Fall colors are doing at 800-COLORADO.

The drive from the Front Range, Denver et al, is loaded with Fall foliage colors itself. The aspen trees begin to go off up high and as the season continues, the cottonwood trees join in along the river banks. Take a little extra time and drive over Independence Pass instead of through the Eisenhower Tunnel. It is totally worth it. And, because it is Fall it will be much quieter on the roads too.

When you arrive at our hotel in Glenwood Springs, on the western slope of the Continental Divide of the Rocky Mountains, don’t tell your kids what they are in store for ahead of time. Instead surprise them when they find out they are staying at a hotel that was virtually conceived for them! We have a kids indoor water park that is exceptionally unique. Families say it is the highlight of their vacation. So it will take the heat off when you say its time for more sightseeing.

Best of all, great leaf peeping can be had while keeping the kiddos on their toes. Right next door to us is the Adventure Park. You ride a tram up the mountain just steps from your room. From there it can be as wild or as mild as everybody wants it to be. But the main attraction in the Fall is certainly the view up there of the Autumn leaf colors! You could easily spend an entire day at the Adventure Park too!

Next up, rent bicycles and ride the canyon for more great vistas at a much slower pace than when you drive through in a car. See what we are doing here? Keeping the kids happy makes for great getaways while you get that leaf peeping in that they might otherwise call, “boring!”

Want more Fall foliage colors? Our staff at the front desk are locals through and through and each of them probably have a different favorite leaf peeping drive, from the Maroon Bells up in Aspen to the wildness of the Flat Top Mountains. That is only two. There are many more. Perhaps too many to see in one season. But that’s ok. Because the next time you say, who wants to go to Glenwood Springs, you’ll have everybody on board with your plan. We can even package up your stay with Adventure Park tickets, or? Did we mention the worlds largest hot springs pool is here?

Hotel Glenwood Springs recently won two coveted awards; the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor and Fido’s Favorite Award from BringFido.com. Assistant General Manager, Jessica Fenlon, explains, “As a pet friendly hotel here at Hotel Glenwood Springs, we are honored to receive the Fido’s Favorite Award.” She continues, “We make it a point to not only get to know our guests, but their pets as well. We try and learn each and every pets name and even allow the pets to be left in the room as long as we have a cell phone number for the owner just in case we need to contact them. We offer affordable pet-friendly rooms in only one location of the hotel, close to the entrance, to help make it convenient for our guests traveling with pets. Another reason why we keep our pet-friendly rooms in one location is for guests who do have pet allergies; we can ensure that they will be safe and comfortable during their stay with us in a pet-free location of the hotel.”
